Getting started selling Fresh NYS-Grown Christmas trees at your location
You have a vacant lot. How can you make some money selling trees on it?

Q: Who can benefit from working with NYS tree farmers to sell fresh NYS-grown Christmas tree?
A: Church groups, scout troops, property owners, restaurants and bars, and store owners. Really, any organization with a little space and some good visibility.

Q: Do I need a special permit to sell Christmas trees?
A: Check with local officials to see if needed.

Q: What about Sales tax collection?
A: Pre-cut trees are taxable; and your organization will need to register with the state tax department to get authority to collect and remit sales tax.

Q: How much space do we need?
A: Square footage – sale area; square footage – storage. We have found that at a minimum, you need to have a  few trees set up as demos; and more readily available.

Q: What do I need to do to care for the trees while they are being stored on my lot?
A:  It’s important to keep out of direct sun and wind, under cover is best, but needn’t be indoors

Q: When do we need to place our order? When can we expect to have the trees delivered? What about re-orders?
